French Onion Soup Fries


A super indulgent treat to share between the family, a group of friends or two hungry people! This twist on the classic French onion soup uses Aviko Super Crunch Chips instead of toast to top the rich delicious beef and onion broth.


4 as a sharer or 2 as a main

Time to cook:

1hour 40 minutes





  • 1 packet Aviko Super Crunch Chips
  • 200g Grated Hard Cheese like Emmental or Gruyere
  • 1 Large Onion
  • 50g Butter
  • 500ml Beef Stock
  • Tsp Flour
  • A few sprigs of thyme
  • Tbsp Balsamic Vinegar


  1. Slice the onion into strips and add to heavy based frying pan with the butter and cook slowly until brown, this should take around an hour
  2. Cook Aviko Super Crunch Chips as per packet
  3. Once the onions are browned stir in the flour and a few thyme leaves then cook for minute
  4. Add the beef stock and simmer for 20 minutes until thickened
  5. Place cooked Aviko Super Crunch Chips on top of the broth then add the grated cheese and put pan in a 200°C oven for 10 minutes
  6. Sprinkle with a few more thyme leaves and serve
